On a friend’s recommendation, I dined at Junoon while vacationing in Dubai recently. Junoon is a Michelin-starred restaurant that originated in New York, and its owners are hoping to repeat that success at its new Dubai location.

My dining partners and I decided to start off with a selection from the impressive cocktail list. I opted for the “Sparkling Saffron” only because it contained two of my favourite things – saffron and sparkling wine, and the drink was surprisingly refreshing and potent!

When it came to ordering our meal, we were spoilt for choice. The great thing about dining with newfound fellow foodie friends was that everyone was happy to order and share a whole bunch of dishes. And so we did!

I couldn’t give you a list of what to try because EVERYTHING we ate was phenomenal. The crispy Eggplant Chaat was incredibly delicious, with just the right amount of softness to complement the generously drizzled tamarind chutney.

The Piri Piri shrimp had me salivating the second it was placed on our table. The Shahi Lamb Shank with its black cumin rose curry and saffron honey foam was an epicurean adventure and cooked to fall-off-the-bone perfection.

But the clear winner was the Tamilian Fish Curry served with a side of naan bread – just the right amount of kick and completely delectable.

The service was truly exceptional – attentive, courteous and friendly, while not intrusive….and very patient with our constant requests to photograph every plate!

The venue itself was something to admire. We were told that the wide pillar in the middle of the restaurant was to depict the tree of life, whose “branches” extended to the feature wall that displayed a striking mural.

Dining at Junoon Dubai was definitely a top highlight of my vacation. What’s not to love about Indian fine dining? I only wish I lived closer!!
